Meet the Maurers

generic (blog)

Ben Maurer first began attending SGC with his family as a young teenager in the Spring of 2000. In 2005, Ben brought his girlfriend, Allie, to church with him. Now, they are married with four beautiful children.

To begin, please tell us a little bit about your family:

maurers right sizeFirst things first: no, we’re not related to Joe, although we do pronounce our last name the same way, so that’s something! Ben (32) has spent the last year in the Sovereign Grace Pastors College, and has been hugely blessed by the whole experience. While the past year has been stuffed with studies, Ben is looking forward to getting back home and having some time to spend reading fantasy/sci-fi novels and lifting weights with his buddies. Allie (30) spends most of her time keeping our four children alive. When she’s not functioning as teacher, nurse, and referee for the kids, Allie enjoys a nice cup of coffee, checking out a new book store, or watching the West Wing (again) with Ben. Gideon (9) is an aspiring historian. When he’s not reading biographies or historical novels, he loves riding his scooter, drawing, and having long conversations with mom. Elijah (7) is our resident daredevil. If you see a blur running, jumping, tumbling, cartwheeling, or sumersulting by, you can be reasonably certain you’ve just caught a glimpse of Elijah! When he’s not testing the limits of physical exertion, he loves to play Pokemon with his brother, design robots, and build amazing inventions with legos and tinker toys. Caroline (4) keeps us all smiling and laughing while also keeping us on our toes. She loves to play pretend, try to keep up with her brothers, play mother hen to her little brother, and ask questions that you’re not quite sure how to answer. Soren was born this past March. He’s got a smile that can light up a room and a scream that can pierce your eardrums. His brothers and sister all agree that he’s probably the cutest, and for sure the most loved, little brother in the whole world!

What are some of your favorite things to do as a family?

We love to spend time together playing at the park, watching cooking shows, going for nature walks, eating ice cream, reading books out loud, having pizza parties, watching movies, rocking family dance parties, and trying to stay up past our bedtimes.

What evidences of grace to you see at SGC?

God’s grace is all over SGC! For us personally this has been displayed in your loving support during the past year of study at the Pastors College in Louisville. We’ve felt your affection and care from afar, and we’re thrilled to be reunited with you all in June! Additionally, the faith and excitement that is evident surrounding our move to a 24/7 outpost for ministry in Burnsville is a huge evidence of God’s grace. Watching you all pitch in and serve on workdays to prepare our new meeting space has been so encouraging, and it’s such wonderful fruit of God’s grace in you all. Finally, we see God’s grace at work in the faithful day in day out engagement of the body living life together. We are a blessed people!
