The Mission of God
God does everything he does to the end that he might be praised. God’s desire is that the knowledge of his glory would cover the earth as the waters do the sea. God’s mission is the manifestation of his magnificence by displaying his glory.
What is God’s glory? It is God going public with his infinite worth. It is God’s desire that he might be known and enjoyed for his nature and character. God seeks to be recognized as supremely valuable, supremely worthy, and supremely splendid. That is his glory, a glory that is most clearly seen in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 43:6-7, 48:9-11; Ezekiel 20:14; Habakkuk 2:14; Ephesians 1:3-14
The Mission of the Church
The mission of the Church universal is to glorify God by making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s mission and the mission of his Church are inseparably linked. As those who have been reconciled to God through the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are now ambassadors of reconciliation to a lost and broken world. We plead, reason, pray, serve, preach, teach, and gather to see God glorified through the reconciling power of the gospel.
Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
The Mission of Sovereign Grace Church
At Sovereign Grace Church, we bring together the mission of God and the mission of the Church by making disciples who delight in, display, and declare the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. In other words, we bring glory to God as we delight in the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, grow in becoming more like Jesus, and go into our lost and broken neighborhoods, our communities, and the world to declare the good news.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we delight in God as the greatest treasure in the universe. Nothing in this world can satisfy us more than knowing God and experiencing the love he has shown us through Jesus Christ. We find all of our joy and satisfaction in the God of the gospel. We have been created and redeemed to worship him and delight in his salvation.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we display the transforming power of the gospel. The gospel not only saves us, but it changes us to be more like Christ. By the grace of God as we behold the glory of Jesus Christ and apply the truth of God’s Word to our lives, we become more like Christ. God’s Spirit leads us in walking by faith, fighting sin, and joyfully obeying his commands.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we declare God’s goodness found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church witnesses to the glory of the gospel through corporate and personal evangelism. Having received God’s grace, we pursue the lost and declare the good news, extending grace to our surrounding community and to the world.
